Frederick Douglass Honor Society/YMCA of Talbot County 10-Mile Race & Celebration:
May 01, 2010
Frederick Douglass taught us that anything is possible with hard work. He said in his speech to Talbot County schoolchildren, “What was possible for me is
possible for you.” Retrace the 10-mile path Frederick Douglass walked from St. Michaels to his confinement at the Talbot County jail in Easton, MD after a failed escape
attempt in April 1836. His imprisonment at the jail set the stage for a sequence of events that led to his eventual escape to freedom. His accomplishments changed history and
made extensive improvements in the lives of all Americans. Walkers, runners and wheelchair athletes will retrace this historic route to raise monies for the creation of a memorial to honor Frederick Douglass on
the Talbot County Courthouse lawn, celebrating both the triumph and achievements of one of the most prominent figures in African American and United
States history.
Plus, half of the race proceeds will be given to the YMCA of Talbot County to promote physical fitness in the community where the Y serves one in three
citizens in the area.
After the Race, join The Celebration in Easton, now commemorating its 300th anniversary! The historic district will be alive with music, great food, fun
vendors, plenty of sidewalk sales by shopkeepers and award winning restaurants.
For complete Race and Celebration details, visit http://www.frederickdouglassymca10miler.com
Central Location Of Race & Celebration:
Talbot County Courthouse - 11 N. Washington Street, Easton, MD 21601

Lost Dog:
Posted January 17th, 2010
Yellow Lab Male on 1-13 at 6:30 am. We just moved to Kent Island from Mississippi. After two days our companion went out
for a walk and never came back. I'm sure he's very lost and extreemly cold. His ID tag has our MS information on it which
we didn't have time to change. Please help us find Yogi. He's been with us since he was born and he's 8 now. Our daughter
is heartsick over the loss of her only friend here. We put many signs out especially on the Rt. 8 overpass but haven't
gotten a call after three days. The kind folks at Queen Anne's Animal Control have a lookout for him. The post officers
also are looking. Nobody has found him yet so we need all the help we can get. PLEASE HELP US FIND YOGI. WE ARE SO LOST
WITHOUT HIM. Also, any suggestions for finding him would be great. Can a dog get off the island without being seen? Yogi
howls when lonely or scared. Have you heard a howling dog in your field or trees? Does anyone in the area of Batts Neck
& Rt. 8 have a female in heat?? Please call (410)725-0003 with any information on him. Thanks for helping.
KIHS Gives To A.R.F.:
Posted November 18th
First I want to thank Susan for putting me in the position of having public speaking at KIHS. YOU OWE ME ONE SUSAN! But the
bottom line is that ARF was a wonderful recipient of the honor society, and their fundraising that they did to help us out.
The honor society is very involved with their community, and learning about what being a volunteer is to contribute to
society.
These gifted boys and girls are our future, and they show how concerned they are about helping out in our community.
Don Trotter brought a strong message home to them all. After I spoke, and thanked them all about their support for ARF,
and without their help, ARF would not have the finances to help out our animals for medical care to Clorox. Don stepped
in. He asked all of the students, raise your hands if you have a cat or dog. Most raised their hands, and then Don
continued to explain that if it wasn't for ARF, some cats and dogs would not be alive today. That ARF rescues from so many
counties to make space from euthanization. These students are brilliant, and what Don said hit home.
Hopefully we, and all rescues can open up the eyes of society, to how valuable an animals life is. And I believe they
know. Not only did the HRS give a check of over $200, they also donated cat and dog food as well. Thank you KIHS. Thank
you for your education about volunteering for non profits, mostly, thank you for considering ARF as one of your charities.
We are so grateful. Thank you all so very much !
Fondly,
ARF, Susan Beall and Wayne Beall, and all of the volunteers. And all of the cats and dogs who are still awaiting for their
forever homes.
GO BUCS !!!!!!
Queen Anne's County RESET Program:
Posted November 14th, 2009
Queen Anne's County RESET Program offers parents an opportunity to enroll their children who are "at risk" of becoming
involved or who are involved with alcohol and minor drug use. The RESET Program mission is to change attitudes and
behaviors through education. RESET serves parents, Courts, Juvenile Services, Teen Court, Board of Education, Health
Department and the State's Attorney's Office in providing an intervention education for those who have been found/suspected
of being involved in drug and alcohol related incidents. RESET conducts four classes (3 Friday nights and one Saturday
night) providing education of short term and long term effects involving alcohol, marijuana, cocaine, heroin, ecstasy and
prescription medication as well as informing the students how these drugs effect the family and the community. A visit to
the Chester River Hospital educates our students learn what occurrs from accident scene to shock trauma and how drugs and
alcohol may interfere with treatment. A visit to the Circuit Courtroom allows our students to learn the laws and penalties
involving drugs and alcohol from State's Attorney Lance Richardson and Agent Broughton from Parole and Probation. Guest
speakers also share personal experiences to provide our students with "real life" experiences from community members. A
tour of the Queen Anne's County Detention Center allows our students to understand how their lifes will change and hear
the details of prison life from the inmates. RESET involves homework and 100% involvement by the student.
Student fee: $130. Classes are from 5:45 pm until 9:00 pm. For more information: Terry Ober 443-995-5367. Classes are
conducted quarterly or as needed.
